Obituary of Brenda Joyce Phillips White

Brenda Phillips-White was born to Odean and Emma Phillips on December 27th, 1947, in Houston Texas where she remained for 29 years. Brenda was their only daughter. As a devoted daughter, she brought immeasurable joy to her parents, who nurtured her with boundless affection and love. Brenda received her education at Blackshear Elementary, Ryan Jr. High school, and Jack Yates High School in Houston Texas where she was a Ryan Cadette as well as a Majorette. Brenda was baptized at a very young age and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior at the age of 10 years old. With heavy hearts, we announced her peaceful departure on January 27, 2024.

After high school Brenda Married Clarence White and to this union there were three beautiful daughters Valencia M. Phillips, Rosalyn Y. Phillips, and Kimberly D. White. Brenda relocated to Sacramento, California in 1977, where she began her financial career in banking at Mather Airforce Base. Brenda eventually settled in San Diego California with her three beautiful daughters to start a new life and continued her financial career in banking with North Island Federal Credit Union, and she retired from the City of National City in 1989 in National City California. In September of 1990 Brenda welcomed her first son, the handsome Mark D. White, whom she loved with her whole heart. Brenda left behind a profound legacy and cherished memories. Brenda’s life was a tapestry of love, strength, and unwavering faith. 

Brenda loved the Lord and enjoyed singing, dancing, traveling, listening to all types of music especially Rhythm & Blues, and Gospel. I bet you didn’t know she loved the game of football!

Breanda’s greatest pride and joy were her children, whom she nurtured with an abundance of love, instilling in them values of integrity, resilience, and compassion. Her unwavering presence and unwavering support shaped their lives and inspired them to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

Brenda loved her children and grandchildren very much. Her unwavering presence and unwavering support shaped their lives and inspired them to pursue their dreams fearlessly.

Brenda was a heart transplant recipient of 27 blessed years. She received her heart in 1996, which allowed her to continue to live her best life.

Brenda transitioned from this life on January 27, 2024. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents Emma and Odean Phillips.  She is survived by her daughters Valencia Phillips (Chyse Smith) of Chicago, IL, Rosalyn Phillips (Eric Davison) of Atlanta Ga, Kimberly White of San Diego, Ca and one son Mark White of San Diego, Ca, fourteen (14) grandchildren - Donte J. Phillips (Shanequa), Jasmine D. Collins, Joyce S.Collins, Brea’ C. McQueen, Kristen J. Mobley, Dierra P. White, Daceik T. Dew, Dausha I. Dew, Zaria R. Hill, Kamari B. Hill, Kalil J. Hill, Elija D. Dew, and Venus O. Dew and seven (7) great grandchildren - Donte Phillips Jr., Jameire M. Phillips, Desirae N. Phillips, DeAndre M. Phillips, Diah A. White, Damire K. White, Jaiden Dew, Oniya S. Dew and DeAngelo White, and three cousins Joseph Bullocks, Eddie Landrum III.,Cynthia Reese, and Sister-N-Love Betty Williams. Also, Brendabest friend Mary Williams of 47 years, and her sister- friend Karen Smerdon, and Michelle Veiga.  She leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Brend was a pillar of strength, offering unwavering support and unconditional love to her family and friends. Brenda’s legacy of kindness, generosity, and selflessness will forever be cherished. In her presence, hearts were lifted, burdens were lightened, and spirits were uplifted. Though we mourn her passing, we find solace in the beautiful memories we shared and the profound impact she had on our lives. As we bid farewell to Brenda, let us celebrate her life, honor her legacy, and carry her spirit of love and compassion in our hearts. May she find eternal peace in the embrace of heaven, knowing the love she shared continues to resonate in our lives.
