William "Sonnyman" Jackson was born on October 20, 1938 in Denison, TX to Ralph "Pete" and Elizabeth Jackson.
He left us at the age of 77 on January 12, 2016. He is survived by his beloved wife Vivencia Jackson of 56 years of marriage. He and Vivencia are the proud parents of four sons. Richard, David, William Jr.,and Marcellous Jackson. William also leaves behind his grand children Lanisha, Christopher, Lamar, Marcus, Pernell, Jesse and Richelle. Great grandchildren Amariya and Lamar Jr.
He is also deeply mourned by his siblings Robert Finley and Patsy Brown and cousins Wilbert Malvern and Johnnie Mae Nero. Many close friends and family members will miss him also.
After graduating from Denison's Terrell High School in 1956, William enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 11, 1956 where he received a number of honors and recognitions. He retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer E-7 after 30 years of active and inactive service as Communications System Technician. He earned two Associates degrees in Business Management and Electronics following his active duty service.
Everyone close to him knew his passion for fishing, but he truly enjoyed the company of his family and closest friends. He leaves a huge void in many lives and will be missed by all.
Viewing services and a Rosary will be held Thursday 4-8 pm at Legacy Funeral & Cremation Care, 7043 University Ave., La Mesa CA 91942. Followed by 10am Friday mass at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 5124 Churchward St, San Diego, CA 92114.
His military funeral with full honors will be at 10:30 a.m. February 1st at Mirimar National Cemetery, San Diego.
