Vorie Edwin Foos, RMC U.S. Navy Veteran, known as Ed to his family & friends, made his transition on the morning of January 8, 2016, succumbing to respiratory failure. A service to remember and celebrate his life will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016, 12:30pm at Miramar National Cemetery. Those choosing to join Ed's family and attend his final military honors service are requested to arrive by 12:20pm for the procession to the ceremony site. Ed was born in Georgetown, Illinois to Vorie C. Foos and Maude J. Collins on June 26, 1929. He was raised in Indiana and went to Newport High School where he was a member of the high school basketball team and played the drums. Last June, he traveled back to Indiana with step-son Larry Bowen, to attend his 68th high school reunion and reminisce his youth. Ed enlisted in the Navy in 1948, with his military career lasting 20 years. He served on the USS Chukawan, USS Orion and the USS Tigrone. He retired as Radioman Chief Petty Officer. He was a decorated serviceman who earned the Vietnam Service Medal and a Bronze Star for Second Award National Defense Service Medal. After the Navy, Ed made his living for many years as a salesman before starting his own business. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Vorie & Maude Foos, and his sister, Bonnie Tripp, and his wife of 26 years, Nancy C. Foos, step-son, James Bowen, Jr. and step-grandson, Matthew Jon Virca. In 1982, Ed met his third wife and love of his life, Nancy Bowen, in San Diego. They enjoyed a long courtship with many dinners at their favorite steakhouse, The Red Fox, with a group of amazing friends, among them, John & Pat Raftery. They married in Las Vegas in January 1989 with his sister Bonnie and Nancy's children attending the ceremony. Ed and Nancy started a successful flooring measuring business while living in Atlanta, GA and continued that business when they moved back to California in 2001, settling in Santee to be near Nancy's children. Ed and Nancy very much enjoyed family gatherings and bowling. Golfing and bowling were Ed's favorite past time activities, until he broke his hip in October, 2015. During his rehab after the hip surgery, Ed exercised his bowling arm as best he could in hopeful anticipation of his next game at Parkway Bowl. Ed, who was step-father and step-grandfather, is survived by the family he became a very close part of for the past 33 years; granddaughter (daughter of James Bowen Jr.) Annie (Chad) Bowen Fisher and great grandson Xander; Ivy Bowen (2nd wife to James Bowen Jr.) and step-granddaughter Clarissa (Tim) McKibbons, step-daughter Catherine (Nick) Boyle Virca, granddaughter Andrea Boyle and step-granddaughter Emily (Marc) Anton; son William (Tina) Bowen, three grandchildren Jennifer, Joshua and Megan; son Lawrence (Teri) Bowen, grandson Matthew and great granddaughter Marley, grandson Timothy and granddaughter Danna; daughter Lori (Tim) Castle Torske; grandson Joseph (Summer) Castle and great granddaughter Emma Lee, grandson Bryan Castle, two step granddaughters Samantha and Rebecca Torske and very close family member, Diane Blakely who was like another daughter. Condolences may be left in Ed's online guestbook at www.legacyfuneralcare.com
