Velda Lucille Louder, age 95, joined the Lord on February 27, 2016 at her assisted living residence, Monte Vista Village, Lemon Grove, CA.
Velda was born February 10, 1921 in the farming community of Kingston, Missouri to parents, Charles E Yoakum and Lola Susan Yoakum. She was one of 9 children and early on demonstrated her grit and determination as their family struggled during the great depression.
She married Melvin Louder on March 26, 1939. To seek a better life in 1940 they moved to San Diego where Melvin worked at Consolidated Aircraft, later joined the Navy, and served in both WWII and Korea. Although they left farming behind to live in San Diego, Mick and Velda never lost their Midwest values and throughout their lives showed their loving and nurturing nature.
All her life Velda displayed her elegance and creativity through her baking, garden vegetable canning, craft skills and her carefully selected and appointed attire. She was a strong and independent woman as well as a tenacious supporter of each member of her family. She was a powerful and determined force in their lives and has forever left her imprint on each of them.
Velda and Mick formed a loving team as they visited the elderly and sick and shared their home and life's joys with their large family and numerous friends. Velda will be remembered fondly for the deep and genuine interest she took in each person she met. Once you were in her friendship or family circle she would never let you go and as she aged her frequent use of Facebook helped her keep in touch with her family and friends across the country.
Her strong intelligence and remarkable memory stayed with her until the moment she passed and was the envy of those many decades younger than she.
She is survived by her son Ken Louder and his wife Rachel, her daughter Mickie Beyer and her husband Bill Beyer as well as six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A memorial Service for Velda was held on March 1, 2016 at Foothills United Methodist Church in La Mesa, CA.
