Terry Carlton, loving family man, our "energizer bunny," passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 8th, after a day spent with his wife and family. Already missed by all who knew him for his great sense of humor and love for people in general, characterized by integrity, generosity, loyalty and service to others, he made friends with everyone he met. He was dedicated to his wife, Betty, of 61 years, lovingly taking over all household chores when she became unable to do so. He enjoyed entertaining, hosting with Betty many years of 4th of July parties and weekly volleyball games/barbecues at their Descanso home. A talented craftsman, he built his four homes from the ground up, and loved anything active and competitive: golf, basketball, racquetball, volleyball, horseshoes, you name it. Always ready for adventure, he and Betty took up snow-skiing, dune buggies, and always enjoyed music and dancing, square dancing with family and friends for many years. Traveling with special friends to many countries, his favorite was Ireland – his ancestral home. Born in Pennsylvania to Patrick Henry Regis Carlton and Ida Pearl Poland, he met and married his wife, Betty Heikka, while stationed with the Army in Detroit, Michigan, in 1955, subsequently moving to San Diego where he established his own business, T.N Carlton Cabinets. Terry is survived by his wife and four children – Kerry (Randy) Franklin, Debra (Mike) Wilmers, Raymond (Stephanie), and Colleen Beck; brother, Patrick Regis Carlton Jr.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his parents and son-in-law Greg Beck. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on January 21 at 1 pm, Pathways Community Church, Carlton Hills Blvd, Santee. Dad, your strength, love, generosity, smile and twinkle will be missed until we join you in heaven
