Susan Irene (Wayland) Webber ("Sue"), born October 20, 1952 in Chicago, IL, passed away on December 31, 2017 in San Diego, CA. She is survived by her husband Scott Webber, daughter Christi Webber and son Greg Webber. She is also survived by sisters Linda Durczak and Diane Miller; and brothers Ronald Wayland, Roger Wayland and Robert Wayland. She was preceded in death by her father Harry Wayland, and her mother Betty Wayland of Romeoville, IL. Born as Susan Irene Wayland to Harry Bernard Wayland and Elizabeth Virginia Davis (Betty) in Chicago, IL, Sue grew up in various suburbs of Chicago. She had a successful career at companies including IGA, Keebler, and start-up software company Applied Decision Systems. She met her husband Scott in Oakbrook Terrace, IL who was also in the software industry with Pansophic Systems. Upon the birth of their first child, Christi, Sue switched her career to that of mother and homemaker. The family moved to Carmel, IN in 1991, and Sue participated in numerous school and charitable activities while raising her children. As a member of the Children's Museum Guild, she enjoyed "scaring" children at the annual museum haunted house. She was "team mom" for numerous Park Tudor athletic teams, entertained the casts of many school musicals at the end of the performance season, and hosted graduation parties for her children's classes. She chaired fundraisers for the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and spent many years as an active volunteer for the Susan G. Komen Tissue Bank. Sue was known for her pleasant personality, her ability to get along with anybody, and her dedication and commitment to her friends. She was a good communicator and an even better listener. Sue was always willing to listen to issues others were dealing with and offer support if needed. Scott often employed her ability to say the right thing by having her edit his business messages. She also exemplified an incredible intuition when it came to people, and was virtually always correct on her assessments. Sue was fun-loving, considerate, hardworking, and an amazing mother. She was one of the strongest women most of us have ever known. Even at the end of her life, her concern for the needs of others overrode those of herself as she chose to withhold the reality of her condition from even her closest friends in order to shield them from her painful reality, and to allow them to enjoy their lives without the distraction of her plight. Sue will be sorely missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6th, 2018, at Willows on Westfield (6729 Westfield Blvd., Indianapolis, IN 46220) from 11:00 to noon, followed by a reception.
