Mrs. Susan Starr Livesay (née Cottle), of San Diego, CA, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the age of 78.
Susan was born to parents Charles and Dorothy on June 12, 1939 in Atlanta, GA. She grew up as the second youngest of five and attended Deering High School. While in high school, Sue's favorites were reading, singing, horseback riding, dancing, and driving. She was a member of the glee club. While she was in high school, her future plans were "music" and "marriage". Her yearbook called her "a sweet little songbird."
Sue was also a reading champion. She loved books.
After high school, Sue joined a singing/choral group and got the opportunity to perform in front of a member of the Von Trapp family (a famous family of singers in Europe.)
In April of 1962, Sue married Kurt Pool. Sue and Kurt had three daughters: Faith, Katrina, and Rhoanna. Kurt Pool passed away in 1971. While raising her kids, Sue attended classes at Southwestern Community College in Chula Vista. However, with her devotion to her family, she decided to focus just on raising her kids. In 1973, she met and married Ray Wilson Livesay. She and Ray had twin boys, Eric and Jason, who were a surprising, but welcome, addition to the family.
Sue loved horses and had several of them over time. She had many cats, and she and her cats both loved watching the birds visit their ever-blossoming apple tree in the backyard.
Sue enjoyed music and was talented at both singing and playing the piano. A very nice memory the family shares is with Sue playing the piano and all of the family gathered around the piano singing Christmas carols along with her. On some nights you could hear Sue listening to The Mills Brothers, The Statler Brothers, The Platters, or classical pieces from the likes of Chopin.
She was quick witted, caring, strong willed, and loyal. Sue spent most of her time devoted to taking care of, and listening to, her kids, her husband, her grand kids, her great grand kids, and her animals (mostly cats).
In recent years, Sue's husband, Ray, battled with dementia. At the same time, Sue started battling congestive heart failure. Even during the progression of both diseases, Sue took care of her husband with love and determination. It was very hard on her to see what Ray was going through, but she remained constantly by his side taking care of him. Sue passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Sue is survived by her daughters Faith Lewis, Katrina Norman, and Rhoanna Endicott, along with her two sons, Eric Livesay and Jason Livesay, her six grandchildren, and her seven great grand children.
