La Mesa, born Sonja Laburta Rue to William and Laburta (Owens) Rue in Oklahoma City. Sonja graduated from SDSU with a master's degree in music. She taught music at Hale and Wangenheim Jr. High in the San Diego Unified School District where she directed many school wide musicals. She is survived by Bob, her loving husband of 59 years, sister-in-law Patricia Hawkins, brother-in-law Gary Rhea, Niece Rhealyn Holland, nephew Robert Holland and their families. In lieu of flowers, please have a drink in remembrance of Sonja. Sonja's family and dear friends will celebrate memories of her life at a later date.
