Shirley Ann (Wright) Fullen, 82, of San Diego, CA passed away peacefully January 2, 2018 at Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego of natural causes. Shirley was born April 6, 1935, in Atchison, KS. She was youngest of two children born of Frank Edward Wright and Eunice Elizabeth (Rice) Wright. Shirley moved to Boulder, CO in 1952 when she was a junior in high school. She graduated from Boulder High in 1953. Shirley attended the University of Colorado Boulder where she met her future husband. She was married in Boulder, Colorado to Clinton Hiram Fullen on August 6, 1956. Shirley was a homemaker and an active parent volunteer for the Boulder Public School district and also worked for many years as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Boulder Public Library. More recently, she volunteered at the Carmel Valley Branch Library for 5 years. She has always loved books and reading. Her other interests included both planned and spontaneous meals out, travel, plays, art museums, the San Diego Zoo, live musical performances, and adventures of any kind. She went on many cruises over the years, and she has seen much of the world both with her husband and with friends after he passed away. She recently joined the Solana Beach Senior Center and started playing canasta weekly, and she also joined the Rancho Santa Fe Senior Center and participated in their music and film appreciation activities. Shirley was an active member of Horizon Christian Fellowship. Shirley was fortunate to have many "best friends" throughout her life. She went to Curves every morning at 6 am to ride the exercise bicycle, to work out, and to visit with her Curve family. She was very grateful for their support over the past few years. Shirley also had a special bond with her granddaughters, Rachel, Megan, Mallory, and Halsey. She was known for her can-do attitude and lived by the philosophy "Que sera, sera" (whatever will be, will be). She had an adventurous spirit and was a very loyal friend that will be dearly missed. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Clinton Hiram Fullen. Survivors include three children, Cris Ann Schoenbauer, Eliza Jane (Mark) Herms, and Clinton "Ram" Hiram Fullen II (Laura Garland). She has six granddaughters: Rachel Schoenbauer, Megan (Schoenbauer) Lewczyk, Mallory and Halsey Herms, and Brittany and Randi Fullen. At her request, there will be no services and her ashes will be sprinkled at sea.
