Erika passed away from natural causes after declining health. She is survived by her sister Dora Vogt, nephew Gunther (Anja) Vogt, Renate Vogt, Stefan Vogt and Hans Vogt in Germany, as well as her niece Kathie Kingett of La Habra Heights CA.
Erika was born in Kuckerneesa. She and her family fled East Prussia in October of 1944 and spent nine months getting to Austria. Then Americans soldiers on trucks took them to the refuge camp in the American zone in Nuremberg in May of 1945. She emigrated to New York in 1954. She met Bob Kingett on one of her vacations, they married in 1970 and moved to Santa Catalina. She worked for the Santa Catalina Island Company as executive secretary for over 20 years. She and her husband enjoyed a full life of traveling and beachside living in Catalina. After the death of her beloved in 1993 she moved to San Diego to pursue her love of learning at UCSD. She met her partner Val Villarreal there and they shared a full life of studying, traveling, and the arts until his death in 2011. She spent the following years enjoying her interests and the company of her many friends.
Friends and family will bring her ashes to the Catalina Municipal Cemetery for internment in her niche on July 6th. Those who remember Erika are welcome to join us.
