The Reverend Dr. Ronald Earle Williams, D.D. Ron was born on Feb. 10, 1932 and passed away from natural causes on September 6, 2016 at the age of 84. He grew up in Dormont, PA, the only child of Elmer Williams and Mildred Phoenix Williams, both deceased. He married Jane Woods Williams on September 23, 1955. They were happily married until her death, Nov. 30, 2008. They are survived by their son and daughter, Jonathan Williams and Jennifer Williams Hreljac, along with their Granddaughter, Jessica Jane Hreljac, and son-in-law Dr. Alan Hreljac. He is also survived by his cat Turbo aka Whiskers. Ron loved his Family, Good music, and the Lord. Pastor's Life In his early years, After spending his childhood in Dormont School District and neighborhood, he was drafted into the army. He was in the 11th Airborne for basic training. He was in the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks until the Division was sent to the front line in Korea. He was on the front line when the ceasefire was signed to end the Korean War. Post war, he returned to Pennsylvania to attend the University of Pittsburgh. After graduation, he married Jane Woods. She graduated from Presbyterian College of Nursing. They were married by Jane's dad, Pastor Harry Woods. Ron spent many late nights discussing Theology with his father-in-law. He was torn between being a concert pianist or becoming a Pastor when he got 'the call'. Together, Ron and Jane moved to New Jersey for Ron to attend Princeton Seminary. Jane was a patient, gentle, and loving nurse throughout her life. The couple was devoted to each other and inseparable in all they did. His life as a Pastor of Christ's Flock They moved around to answer different calls throughout their lives. The last being in San Diego, CA. Their first church was Leesburgh Presbyterian Church, where he was ordained. His next church was Clarksville Presbyterian and then Transfer Presbyterian Church. Next they moved to California, to Palm Springs Presbyterian Church. This is where they had their children, Jonathan(1965)and Jennifer(1967). Due to the Presbyterian Reformation of 1967, Ron and his family moved to St.Louis, MO to attend Concordia Lutheran Seminary. They returned to California, moving to San Juan Capistrano, where he was pastor of Faith Lutheran Church. With their two young children becoming of school age, he answered the call to move to Los Angeles, where opportunities for his family were greater. He began his ministry at Christ Lutheran Church in Burbank in 1970. The family remained in Los Angeles until they moved to San Diego in 1979. In San Diego, he was the pastor at St.Paul's Lutheran Church until moving on to his final church, St.Martin of Tours Lutheran Church in San Marcos for the past 30 years. During this time, Ron earned his Doctorate of Divinity from Heritage Institute in Santa Barbara, CA. He had many friends in Christ, including Karen Moffitt and Dale Shoemaker. Ron and Jane were able to combine their love of the church with their love of music when they accompanied Dale on a concert tour of England's Church organs, played by Marilyn Mason, Professor Emerita at The University of Michigan-who recently retired after 67 years on the faculty. His Life in Music Ron's introduction to music started early on. His father, Elmer, played jazz saxophone professionally, from age 9 to support his family. Often, young Ronnie would join in with him, having started to play the piano by age 7. He studied with Carmen Rumino, who was the Professor of Piano at Duquesne University. His love of music was also passed on to his children. For Christmas, the Williams family would play quartets, with Jane on piano, Jonathan on trumpet, Jennifer on flute and Ron on cello. He taught himself to play all stringed instruments, including guitar. He enjoyed playing guitar with Jennifer playing flute, performing at talent shows. He studied cello with Joe DiTullio, famous studio musician in Los Angeles. Ronnie and Jennifer played in the San Diego County Symphony Orchestra, which took many tours to Mexico to preform. He also played the mandolin, which his dad Elmer also played. He was fortunate to land many solo gigs in Little Italy, organized by Anthony Davi, which brought him and the audience much joy. Roman Holiday, a popular Italian Music Group, also invited him to perform at many events. Together, they went to perform in the movie "A walk in the Clouds" starring Anthony Quinn and Keanu Reeves, directed by Alfonso Arau. Many knew Ron as Carmelo Sarcone, which was his stage name made up for that movie. Ron enjoyed playing in a string quartet for Christmas in many San Diego restaurants. Many weekends, in the summers, he could be found in Old Town playing with his long time partner, Sandy DeVito. He also had weekly jam sessions with Sandy, emphasizing his pure love of music and constant desire to become the best musician he could be! Ron loved his wife Jane with all of his heart. He was never quite whole again once she passed away. Together, along with their children, Ron and Jane raised many cats and dogs, in addition to generations of local wildlife- raccoons, skunks, opossums and other creatures who fancied their pool as a favorite watering hole! They found much joy in the antics of the animals. His family continued to love and support his dreams throughout his life. He also loved Music, which was certainly his passion. Finally, he loved Christ and his teachings in the Bible, and the church with all his being. Many knew Ron as the jovial man who loved to eat and talk…which is true…hopefully you have now seen the full Ronald E. Williams.
