Robert John Smith (71), passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Kaiser "Zion" Hospital in San Diego, with his wife and children by his side. Robert "Pops" was born on August 9, 1946, in Bronx, New York to Benjamin and Ethel Smith. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1967 and served on the USS Bridget and USS King. During his time in the Navy, he met and married Roxanne Angell Smith. Robert was honorably discharged on January 25, 1971. Upon exiting the military, Robert received his Bachelor's in Accounting, with an emphasis in Management, from National University. Robert was contracted into civil service by the military shortly after completing his education. After 43 years of dedicated service, Robert retired as a Force Auditor with the Inspector General's Office of the Naval Special Warfare Command (SEALS) on the Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, CA. Robert attended the River Church in San Diego, CA, where he enjoyed greeting guests, beach nights at La Jolla Shores, and breaking with bread with his brothers and sisters in Christ. Robert is survived by his wife, Roxanne; children, Mike (Ellen), Steve (Amy), Lori (Josh), and David (Danielle); eleven grandchildren, Emily, Ashlee, Isaiah, Tyler, Hannah, JJ, Micah, Benjamin, Bosena, Brody, McKenzee; brothers, Ronald Smith, Mark Young; and many, many friends.
