He passed peacefully in his sleep in the presence of loved ones and is now at peace in Heaven. Bob was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Alice and George McConnell. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston and went on to graduate from Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts. He later received his MBA. Post graduation he joined the Army in 1962. He served 3 years and received expert rifle and sharp shooter as well as a good conduct medal. After leaving the armed forces he moved to Washington D.C. where he got a job as an accountant and met Barbara Ann Cooper, the love of his life. Their wedding took place on December 4th, 1965. Over the course of 52 years they had 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Throughout his life Bob was an extremely hard worker who was always willing to lend a helping hand. In the mid 1970's Bob moved his family from Pennsylvania to Knoxville, Tennessee. The whole family formed life long friendships with the Taylor and Van Dorselear families. Bob later moved his family in the late 80's to Memphis to begin another adventure. 15 years later Bob finally retired from Carlos Well Supply and moved his family to his dream location of Southern California. They took residency in Escondido, California for 15 years. Bob and Barbara both became a major part of their church, St. Mary Parish. In addition they worked and volunteered for the church and school for many years. Through the church and the school they made numerous amounts of new friends. Bob spoke so highly of each member of the church and of the many others living in the Escondido community. Bob was an avid church goer, he went to mass every morning. After mass, he would spend hours downtown at the Taste of France Bakery, the coin shop, and the bookstore. He was a collector of many things including: 2 dollar bills, countless coins, and lots of papers! He saved everything from old report cards and ribbons to health records and newspaper clippings. He was welcoming to all and loved to be surrounded by his family and friends. His greatest joy in life was his wife, his daughters, and his grandchildren. He was adamant about attending every single sporting event, birthday and holiday. Bob spent his last months in Laguna Niguel at Adelanto Covenant Care. His caregivers Hope and Ted, were truly a blessing. We are so grateful for all the love and support through the duration of his last days. Bob is survived by his wife Barbara, and his daughters and spouses, Kathy & Michael, Terri & Rob, and Ellen. His spirit and love is also embraced in his grandchildren: Bryan, Logan, Riley, and Savannah. He has passed onto a better place, but will continue to live through his loved ones each and everyday.
