Nov 7, 1951 — Jul 24, 2026
San Diego
Richard Winkler, 74, passed away on July 24, 2026, in San Diego, California. Born on November 7, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, Richard lived a life marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a love for simple joys. Richard proudly served in the United States Navy from August 11, 1969, to August 10, 1975. Holding the rank of Torpedoman’s Mate Second Class (TM2), he was stationed in Sigonella, Sicily, Italy. His time in the Navy was a testament to his commitment and discipline as he contributed to the defense and security of his nation. Beyond his military service, Richard found joy in playing the guitar, solving puzzle books and watching the Cubs play. These hobbies reflected his creative spirit and sharp mind. Whether strumming melodies or working through intricate puzzles, Richard embraced these pastimes with enthusiasm. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie A. Nava Winkler; his parents, Richard and Ruth Winkler; and his sister Dawn Winkler. He is survived by a loving family who will cherish his memory: his children Farrell Howe, Leonard Nava, Michele Nava, Margaret Rawson and Lola Patino; his brother Todd Winkler; his sisters Jodi Carlton and Diane Winkler (sister-in-law). May Richard’s memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life well lived.
There will be no services. Richard’s ashes will be placed in the Miramar National Cemetery at a time to be determined.
