Richard Garzon, also known to some as Carlos Arturo Garzon, passed away at the age of 77 on the evening of Friday, September 23, 2016 in El Cajon, California of natural causes.
Richard is survived by his wife Gloria and 7 children; Fernando, Ivelisse, Richard, Edgar, Juliana, Ivelisse (Ivette), and Angela; his 2 sons-in-law; Jorge and Todd, his 14 grandchildren; Danika, Justin, Shelly, Adam, Melissa, Izzy, Jasmine, Thalia, Richie, Alexa, Isabella, Damian, Olivia, and Audrey as well as several great-grandchildren.
Richard was born on November 12th, 1938 to Carlos Julio Garzon and Maria Barragan in Bogota, Colombia. The oldest of 4 children, he immigrated to the United States at 16 years old, first settling in New York in November of 1954. One of Richard's fondest memories of coming to the U.S. was flying into New York when he was 16 and seeing snow for the very first time. In 1980, he moved to Southern California, where he resided and worked as an insurance agent for over 35 years.
Richard was a devout Jehovah's Witness for 35 years, and was baptized in October of 1988 in Lake Havasu, Az. He was very zealous in the preaching of the Good News of Jehovah's Kingdom. He regularly volunteered his time to teach others about God's name, Jehovah (Psalms 83:18), as well as God's promises for all mankind found in the bible. He participated in this volunteer work up until his death. One of his favorite scriptures in the Bible can be found at Psalms 16:1 which reads:
"Judge me, O Jehovah, for I have walked in my integrity;
In Jehovah I have trusted without wavering."
Richard valued his family and friends. He enjoyed listening to Vallenato music, from his home country Colombia, and spending time outdoors with his youngest grandchildren. He was a generous person with all that knew him and his lively presence will truly be missed. His family looks forward to the day when John 5:28, 29 will be fulfilled:
"Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life…"
The memorial service for Richard will be held on Saturday, October 8th, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at: 9607 Murray Dr. La Mesa, CA 91942.
It is the wishes of the family that any desired Memorial or Funeral donations be made to his family or mailed to Gloria Garzon at 1238 Avocado Ave. El Cajon, CA 92020.
