El Cajon, CA – Richard Gail Darrah, 91, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at his home in El Cajon, CA following a brief illiness. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he leaves his loving wife, Arlene (Joy) Darrah, two children: Vikki Lozano and Jim Darrah, four grandchilden, Zach, Reef, Jocelyn and Richard Brenden, one great grandson, Herman, many close friends and his beloved Schnauzer, Mitsy. Born and raised in Illinois, he attended Northwestern University and then joined the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Franklin aircraft carrier during WWII. After serving with the Navy, he moved to CA where he was a disk jockey for KWIK radio. Later he worked for Pacific Telephone as an advertisng sales executive where he received numerous awards for sales excellence. Richard enjoyed sports, was an avid LA Rams fan, as well as reading, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia. He will be buried at the Miramar National Cemetery. A gathering to celebrate Richard's life will be held Saturday, May 20th at 11:30 AM at Arlene's home. Friends and family are welcome.
