On Monday, September 18th, Meredith (Williams) Hoagland peacefully passed away surrounded by her family.
Meredith graduated from La Jolla High School in 1951. She met the love of her life, her "sailor boy" George Hoagland. After a brief courtship, they were married in 1952. The couple moved to Texas where George had a football scholarship at North Texas State University. Meredith also earned her degree as a teacher all while raising 3 daughters. Upon graduation, they returned to San Diego and were blessed with two more daughters.
Meredith was the number one fan and biggest supporter of her ten grandchildren. Whatever the event, she was the proudest person in the crowd. Win or lose, she was always the first to greet them with a smile, a hug, and a Gatorade.
Meredith's life was an example of unconditional love. She taught elementary and pre-school for many years, was a volunteer in her church, and visited hospice patients. Truly, she touched many lives where her love and zest for life left a lasting imprint.
Her home was a refuge for strangers, friends and family. People with nowhere to go for the holidays frequently attended Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, or even just a regular meal. Many often wondered how such a large heart could be contained in such a petite person.
Meredith is survived by her long time companion Ken Holly, five daughters, their spouses, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, October 14th, 11am Holy Cross Cemetery.
