Daughter of Theresa and Ralph Nixon. Marjorie Ann Nixon was born in Oregon, Missouri on November 16, 1926. She had an older sister, Betty Jane (Nixon) Hudson and brother, Nelson Nixon. Her father called her "Mugs" and she was a "Marjorette" in high school. During WWII, she and Betty lived together and worked at the Quaker Oats plant in St. Joseph, Missouri. In 1953 she moved to San Diego, CA and she married Geno Ferrante on September 7, 1953. Geno was in the Navy, and they were stationed in Guam, where they took their 3 dogs to live for 3 years. When they came back to the states, they settled in the San Carlos community of San Diego where they had 3 children, Biagio, JoAnn, Tony and foster son Eric. During that time, she worked at Thrifty Drug store. She was everyone's favorite friend and person, from her many customers to her coworkers, and most friendships lasted her lifetime. After 25 years, she retired and became even busier. She raised 2 foster daughters, Nikki and Demaree. Margie volunteered as a local activist in petitioning and helping create the Mission Trails Park. She was also a dedicated volunteer to the VFW's American Legion where she held all offices from Madame President and down. Margie spent many years working in the American Legion's famous "Hag Show", which was a highlight of her life, making costumes and preforming burlesque dance routines. It was a show put on "By Women — For Women". Those Hag Shows sold out every year…and she was a shining Star!! Margie also served as President in the BPW, Business and Professional Women's club of San Diego. She volunteered her time in her community in supporting various candidates for community and city office positions. She was a top-notch signature gatherer!! Margie always maintained a personal and financial support of the San Diego Zoo… she has her name on a plaque at the zoo for a special recognition of her support. Margie continued to work collecting surveys for marketing firms — she loved keeping busy and talking to people!!! In her later years, Margie loved to sew quilts and crochet and make promotional pendants. Eventually, she spent her time reading Danielle Steel Novels. Margie had a special love for dogs, cats, fish, birds and turtles. She was a card-carrying member of the San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society. Marjorie had a full life of 91 years and was loved by her family and many friends. She is survived by her children Biagio, JoAnn, Tony, Eric, Nikki, Demaree and her grandsons, Steven, Scott, Nicholas, Andrew and Michael. Margie will truly be missed. Memorial gifts in her honor may be sent to the San Diego Turtle and Tortoise Society or the San Diego Zoo. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 1:00 PM at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in San Diego CA
