Margaret K. Hayko, Born Margaret Ann Kester, was known as Maggie by most of her friends and family. Maggie was born on July 13th, 1946, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the daughter of Bernard and Margaret Kester, and the older sister to Bernard and Robert. Maggie attended St. Nicholas Catholic school, where she graduated in 1964, and went on to nursing school. She was the singer of songs, a true entertainer at heart, after her school acting days, when she graced the New Jersey playhouse stages during the 1970's, she went by the name "Margo". In her professional life, Maggie was described by her peers as "A nurses' nurse"; an expert in her field, one who mentored the less experienced, never cut a corner, and always had her patients wellbeing in mind. Maggie was the kind of nurse you wanted as a patient. She believed in higher education and loved poetry, becoming a published author in 1993. To Maggie, there was always a reason to celebrate and wherever she went, she made friends. Maggie always had an ear to listen, when you needed it most. She loved giving presents and was so grateful for her pen pals. Maggie loved being a mother to her only son, Zachary, and she was incredible at that role. Maggie had a keen love for Disney, starting first as a child through radio and picture shows, then through the Mickey Mouse Club, other television programs and finally, enjoying Disneyland with Zachary, family and friends. Maggie's favorite Disney tune was "When you wish upon a star". Her brother Bernie said it best, "she was constantly evolving throughout her life". The last words Maggie spoke were on Sunday, September 26th, at about 1:00 AM. She told Zachary and Rochelle that "today would be a sad day, and that they should look to the sunset to remember her." With Rochelle and Zachary holding her hands, Maggie took her last breath at 1:26 AM on Monday, September 27th, while "When you wish upon a star" just happened to be playing in the background. Maggie departed this earth with the same grace she lived with, knowing she was well loved by both her family and friends. According to Maggie, there is no greater treasure in this world than a good friend. As Maggie would often say; "Parting is such sweet sorrow".
