Margaret Ann "Peggy" Bennett passed away June 29th, 2016 at age 82. She was born December 7th 1933 in East St Louis to Georgia Alice and Hall Gatewood Williams. They moved to La Mesa, CA when she was seven. She met Walter "Doug" Douglas King in marching band at Grossmont High School. They became high school sweethearts and were married about a year after graduation. Doug spent 2 years in the Army and they lived, during that time, near Fort Ord in Central California. They returned to San Diego County to begin a family. They had their first of 3 sons, Steven in 1955. Mike was born in 1957 and Brian was born in 1959. Peggy definitely had her hands full with 3 energetic boys to ride herd over. She was an active member in the PTA and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She thoroughly enjoyed her role as a full time wife and mother. She was smart, clever and loved to play bridge and the piano. She would also often be found at her sewing machine making clothes for her family. As the boys got older, she started teaching classes at "Stretch n Sew" from time to time. She remained a dedicated, loving and supportive mom. When the boys graduated from Grossmont High School and went off to college, she went back to school to learn computer operations and began working in that field. Doug later took a promotion with CalTrans that took them to Sacramento for a few years before he retired in 1995. Doug passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in 1999. It was devastating to all our family. Peggy moved to Norwich NY later that year to live next door to her middle son Michael and his family. She thoroughly enjoyed being close to 2 of her young grandchildren, and Mike and his wife Robyn. She also spent many hours sitting at her sewing machine again with her newly found passion of quilting. In 2003 she moved back to San Diego to marry Sanford "Sandy" M. Bennett, whom she had worked for years prior when she began computer data entry. Family and treating people with kindness and consideration have always been very important to Peggy. Her home was always open and welcoming. To many of her nieces and nephews she become more than just an aunt. She is survived by her husband: Sanford "Sandy" M. Bennett; her three boys and their wives: Steven (Sarah), Michael (Robyn), and Brian (Dina); six grandchildren: Ian and Amy, Kevin and Jason, and Daniel and Elizabeth; and two great-grandchildren: Isaac (Ian) and Caterina (Kevin and Sarah). She was preceded in death by her parents: Hall and Georgia Williams; a sister: Lois Hewitt; and her first husband Walter Douglas "Doug" King. Cremation has occurred and a service was held Saturday July 2, 2016.
