Malcolm (who preferred "Mal") was one of a kind. He was the first born of a family of six, Mom & Dad, and four boys. Mal was the oldest, then Donald Holmes, Bruce Planche, and David Aiken, the youngest. Mal was always kind of different, he was in and out of the family's lives, and led a solitary existence for most of his life. He left home to finish high school in Alameda, California at the age of 17 (1945). He spent his high school years during World War II, finishing just as the war was ending. While Mal was in high school, the family moved to Manzanar, California (the Japanese Relocation Center) as his Dad was employed there as an electrician. When the family moved to Kingman, Arizona, Mal came home and got a job on the construction of Davis Dam. When his parents drove to Reno for a little vacation, Mal decided to stay in Reno, supporting himself with odd jobs. After several years, the family moved to La Jolla, California, and Mal came home again, joined the Army for two years, and was stationed in Germany. He took leave and visited the Vatican in Rome, and told the story of going there at 6:30 in the morning, the door was open so he went in and wandered around uninterrupted. He never stopped being amazed at how stunningly beautiful it was…talked about it for years. He treasured pictures of this beautiful place. When he returned home, he attended San Diego State for about eight years, obtaining several degrees. David talked him into coaching his basketball team, playing in the City League. Mal led the team to a second place finish. When he finished his college days, he started working as a computer programmer, for Sperry Univac/Unisys and worked there until his retirement. He was always generous and available to help out his family whenever he could. He led a very solitary life, never married, but was a beloved member of the Inman family. He is survived by his youngest brother, David, David's wife Jeannie, and many nieces and nephews. Mal will be remembered with kindness and love. May God wrap him in his loving arms and welcome him into heaven. Rest in peace Mal.
