Lyall G., retired from San Diego City Schools as a Crawford HS Guidance Counselor in 1981, passed on peacefully at home of natural causes at 4:30AM on December 11th, 2017. Lyall was born in Renton, Washington, and graduated from the University of Washington in 1952. He and his first wife Alice were married 57 years until her passing, raising two fine boys Grant and Larry. Lyall is now survived by his second wife Vesta Schmidt, by his son Larry with wife Cheryl, and by Grant's widow Linda.
Lyall was a Navy Yeoman in WWII, and later a Naval Reserve Supply Corps Lieutenant. Lyall served with the Valle de Oro Citizens Association, County of San Diego Public Works Advisory Board, and The Old Mission Rotary Club. Lyall's career began teaching Spanish at Greenleaf J.H.S. in Seattle, and then at Roosevelt J.H.S. in San Diego. Lyall was an outspoken writer of numerous contemporary newspaper articles, but was primarily a devoted loving husband, friend, father, and Methodist Christian. He is sorely missed.
Lyall's memorial service will be on January 9th, 2018 at Paradise Village Retirement Center (at Liberty Hall on 2nd floor) at 3PM. Address: 2700 S.E. 4th St., National City, CA. 91950.
