Luis Gutierrez, 75, San Diego, CA MSgt/USMC Beloved Husband, Son, Brother, Father, left to be with our Lord on November 11, 2018 after a battle with health complications. He was surrounded by his family. On July 31, 1943 Luis was born in San Antonio, Texas to Vicente Gutierrez and Guadalupe Rabago. Joining the United States Marine Corps on January 11, 1966. Luis was deployed to the Vietnam War on two separate occasions. He was also stationed in The Philippines, Japan, Canada, and Okinawa. He received The National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, and Purple Heart Medal amongst others. He held many jobs within the United States Marine Corps and retired April 20, 1986 as a Master Sergeant. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines always stayed with him. His friends and family will be a witness to this. Luis was united in marriage with Esther (Camacho) Gutierrez in San Diego, California where they shared a home. He lived in San Diego for more than 50 years. Luis is survived by a wife, Esther; Children; Grandchildren; Great Grandchildren; and Great Great Grandchildren. Luis was a member of Saint Jude Shrine of the West for over 40 years. He also was a member of his local VFW. He loved his Dallas Cowboy's, San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres and San Antonio Spurs. You can hear him all the way down the street yelling at the television. He loved Military movies, Western's and comedies. His favorites being Me, Myself, and Irene and Full Metal Jacket (he said it was the closest thing to boot camp). He also, loved his 'Tejano' music as well as 50's and 60's music and jammed to it all the time. He enjoyed getting together with family for dinner, special occasions, and holiday's. Luis is known by his Grand Children as Tata and Grandpa, by his friends as 'Louie' and his kids 'Dad'. He always made his grandchildren laugh by making funny faces or making jokes. He also enjoyed tickling them and buying them unexpected gifts. No matter what the event was if he was invited by one of his kids or grand kids he would always make it. And it was rare if he failed to do so. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and was always looking out for his family and friends, he would stop whatever he was doing to help if you asked him. He was a man of his word, and he will greatly missed by all. Semper Fidelis
