Dr. Larry Sweeney, age 88, loving husband and father, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the Veterans Hospital in San Diego on April 3, 2019. He is survived, and will be dearly missed by his wife Marie, his five children Calvin, Kevin, Sean, Scott, and Pamela, 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Larry graduated from Tufts University in 1953 and he graduated from Tufts Medical School in 1957. He served in the U.S. Navy as a physician and medical officer for 10 years. He worked as a radiologist in private practice until 1992 when he and his wife moved to Portland, Oregon. He worked at the Veterans Hospital in Portland until 2001. He worked as a radiologist at the Veterans Hospital in San Diego from 2001 – 2017. He loved being a radiologist and he loved working and teaching at the Veterans Hospital in San Diego. Larry lived life to the fullest. He was a life-long athlete. He played football in high school as well as college. In later years he excelled in tennis, skiing, bicycling, backpacking, and long distance running. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Veterans Hospital in San Diego, who were involved in his care and treatment.
