It is with great sadness that the family of John H. Zumaya announces his passing on August 9, 2017. A gentle man filled with kindness and generosity. He loved interacting with people, no one was a stranger! His "Howdy howdy howdy" was legendary! Born on June 23, 1930, John was raised in San Diego, attending Sherman Elementary, Memorial Junior High and San Diego High School. John was a hard-working man. His working years began as a young teenager. Some of his first jobs were at Towner Bowl in Downtown San Diego where he picked up and set up bowling pins and SDG&E. In early adulthood, John was also a commercial fisherman and finally, worked as a Longshoreman, a job he loved, until his retirement at the age of 82. He was a proud member of the ILWU Local 29 for 58 years. John is survived by his wife Noralund (Boogie), children; Alex (decd), John (Mary), Linda, Paul, Randy (Michaelle); Stepchildren; Henry (Suzie) Williamson, Orlean Mireles & Ernie (Ann) Cook, brothers; Alejandro (Hilda) Rico and Felipe Rico, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
