John Robert Fate, 68, of San Diego, California, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
John or "Jack" as he was known growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was born on February 22, 1949. After completing high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Navy where he served honorably from 1968 – 1972. His service included a tour of duty on the USS Enterprise as a jet mechanic on the flight deck supporting launch and recovery of jet aircraft. After returning from sea duty, John was stationed at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego, California, until his service was completed in 1972. While serving in the U.S. Navy, John earned the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Metal. After leaving the service, John remained in San Diego, became a certified general electrician, and opened his own successful electrical business. John was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5985 in San Diego.
John enjoyed sailing, biking and hiking throughout his life and more recently gained great pleasure riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He can best be remembered for his helpful, energetic spirit and compassion for others. He was proud of his military service and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
John is predeceased by his parents, John "Elmer" and Dorothy Fate, his sisters, Sandy Pisano of Pittsburgh, PA, Patty Luke of Williamsburg, VA, Peggy Schweitzer of Fort Myers, FL, Linda Fate of Northeast, MD, and his brother, Michael Fate of Mission Viejo, CA.
Funeral services will be held at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, in San Diego, California, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
A gathering of family and friends will be held following the service, from 12 – 2PM, at Rock Bottom Restaurant, 8980 Villa La Jolla Drive, La Jolla, California. Food and beverages will be served.
