John's battle with heart disease ended early Tuesday, March 7, 2017. He died at home in Lakeside. He leaves behind a cherished friend, Rex Claar, who ministered daily to John's needs in the last year and a half of life. Surviving him also are his four sisters, Diana Decker, Mary Malyon (John), Susan Stebner (Ronald), and Donna Lyons (Buffalo, NY). He was preceded in death by a younger brother, Richard, who passed away in early November, 2016. John had a keen appreciation for all types of music, had a thirst for knowledge, loved to travel, had many pets during his lifetime, and was good and kind to all he met. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Born and raised in Buffalo N.Y. to John and Reva Deery he was one of six children. He moved to California in late 1969 to live in what he called "paradise". His widowed mother and four of his siblings soon followed. John worked for more than 20 years as a Salesman for Amfac Electrical Supply Co. Viewing will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, March12, 2017 at Legacy Funeral Chapel La Mesa California. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church, La Mesa. Friends are invited.
