Jean Clapperton, 95, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 21, 2016, in La Mesa, CA. Jean, a California native, was born and raised in Huntington Park, CA. She was a 1942 graduate of Whittier College and went on to teach elementary school for over 30 years, mainly in the East Whittier School District. Jean was preceded in death by her devoted husband, J. Rowley Clapperton, in 2008. Jean and Rowley were married in 1942 and after World War II resided over 30 years in Whittier, CA. before relocating to San Diego County in 1984. They lived in Carlsbad and later Oceanside during their retirement years, enjoying golf, traveling, friends and family activities. Jean had moved to La Mesa in 2014 to be closer to family members. She is survived by their three children; Nancy (Wes) Hill of Slippery Rock, PA., William (Chris Love) Clapperton, and Judy (Brian) Pike of San Diego County, five grandchildren; Amanda, Lauren, Blake, Trevor and Erin, and four great-grandchildren and Jean's younger brother, Jack Crossan, of Sherwood, Arkansas. Jean will be missed by her family and friends, and will be remembered for her loving, pleasant disposition, and warm smile that she greeted all with daily. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life.
