Jan was born on February 20, in 1935 to her parents Lawrence & Pearl Kilmer. She had 2 siblings Jackie & Lawrence (Chip). She was called home to heaven on September 23, 2017. Jan was married for 60 years to her loving husband Larry O'Brien, and they had eight children: Dave O'Brien, Mike O'Brien, Debbie Myers, Kathy O'Brien, Sherri Scire, Dan O'Brien, Shawn O'Brien, and Larry (Chip) O'Brien. She also had five grandchildren: Jason O'Brien, Frank O'Brien, Tammy Youngdale, Shaylyn Scire, and Michael O'Brien, and nine great-grandchildren: Lily, Trevor, Christopher, Anthony, Jayden, Devyn, Bradley, Dahlia, and Killian. She also had a son in-law Jim Scire, daughter in-laws: Tajna O'Brien and Liz O'Brien, and grandson in-law Randy Youngdale. Jan was a heart transplant recipient (23 years ago) and beat the odds for how long a person typically lives with a heart transplant. That is just how she was; she was a fighter, had an amazing strong will, and was one of the strongest women we have known. Jan loved spending time with her family. She always made the holidays extra special and created fun traditions like hiding the elves for all the kids / grandkids to find around the house at Christmas, playing the card game 31, making sure we all celebrated St. Patrick's Day in style with all the green accessories to wear, and the great money hunt at Easter time. She loved going on vacations and some of her favorites were Alaska, Laughlin, and Big Bear (we took separate cars and all got lost but luckily all made it together by Christmas morning!). Even though they had a large family and often little money, she always made sure to somehow have enough to go on little trips or family vacations. The memories created on the vacations will always be with us. She had a deep Catholic faith and it gives us comfort knowing that she is at peace in Heaven. Jan was a loving wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, and friend. She will be will be missed by all but we will always remember her spirit, smile, and love. The journey wasn't an easy one, but it didn't take long. Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new. I wish that all you could close your eyes and that you could see it too. Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand God is taking care of me… I'm in the shelter of his hands. Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain. Here there is no crying and I'll never hurt again. Here it is so peaceful when all the angels sing. I really have to go for now … I've just got to try my wings.
