Mr. James Robert Barber Jr., 62, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the VA Hospital in San Diego, CA. Born on August 7, 1954 in Lebanon, KY to Bob Barber Sr. and Elizabeth Ann Mudd, James, known as Bob or Bobby to his family, spent his childhood in Springfield, KY. Bob enlisted in the United States Navy in May 1975. During his service, he earned numerous medals and awards. While stationed in the USS Midway, he met his wife of 37 years, Dolly Cabrera. They married on August 2, 1980 and have two children, Bobby III and Courtney. He retired from the Navy as CWO5 in May 2007 after 32 years of honorable service. He then worked for nearly 10 years as an Aerospace Engineer for Northrop Grumman. He is survived by his wife, Dolly Barber of San Diego, CA; children Bobby Barber III and wife Jessica Minch Barber of Edinboro, PA and daughter Courtney Ann Barber of San Diego, CA; granddaughters Madison Lynn Barber and Ellice Ann Barber; father Bob Barber Sr. and stepmother Shirley Barber of Springfield, KY; brothers Paul and Herman and sisters Betty, Rochelle, and Jackie and several cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 26th at 10 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8200 Gold Coast Dr. San Diego, CA 92126. A burial service will follow at 12:30 pm at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA 92122.
