Hazel Elsie Raldiris (Deacon), loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on June 16, 2016 in Santee, California at the age of 86.She was the wife of Dr. Luis R. Raldiris, USAF Retired. She is survived by her husband Luis, her son James Briggs and his wife Matilda residing in Temecula, her daughters Letitia Allen and her husband Jeffrey Allen, a friend and additional care giver who was very important in her life, Julie Webb who resides in Fountain Hills, Arizona with her husband Tony Webb. Also survived by her sister Beryl and Joan, brothers Roger, John, and Phillip who reside in England.
Hazel was a special bird. If you spent any time with her you'd know her laugh was contagious, her humor quick-witted, and her love of adventure endless. Myrtle Beach was the first American beach she visited. It was there and then that her romance with all beaches began. She was a true sunshine seeker!
Her kids fondly remember Hazel dancing near the huge 1960's stereo console, at New Year's Eve parties, and in the kitchen preparing meals. Music always beckoned her to dance with or without a partner. Her love of dancing started at the Road Menders Club in Northampton and it continued until she no longer could carry her own weight.
She happily celebrated special occasions with family and enjoyed her delightful Margaritas. She knew how to have fun and laugh at the silliest of things. It could have been the tequila at times, but most likely just simply her cheerful and pleasant sense of humor.
Her kindness and generosity were endless. After hurricane Andrew hit Miami and Hazel and Lu temporarily moved to North Miami Beach, they stopped for take-out at Kentucky Fried Chicken. As Lu waited in the car Hazel went inside to order the food. She had noticed two young boys sitting outside as she entered and some words were exchanged. When she exited the restaurant she gave the boys a large bag of food. Lu asked why she did it and she simply said, "They were hungry." Compassionate and loving all of the time. During her lifetime she worked with children in Puerto Rico, Hawaii and San Diego. She loved all children everywhere she went and found great joy in the returned love that she received from them. She was always endearing to children and adults, especially her grandchildren Dan (Puppet), Michael (Buggalugs) and Lyndsey (Lyndsey Pooh).
We loved her British accent and unique vocabulary: "silly sod, Cheeky sod, cheeky bugger, Jack and Jills, and havin' a cuppa." Born in Northampton, England, she emigrated to the USA in 1963 with her son James and daughter Julie after her marriage to Luis on February 14, 1963. Hazel became a naturalized US citizen in 1974. She settled initially in Sumter, South Carolina where her daughter Letitia was born and through Luis military service lived in Columbus, Mississippi, Marquette, Michigan, Puerto Rico, Arkansas, and Hawaii. From Hawaii she moved to San Diego, California where she resided in Tierrasanta for 10 years before moving to Florida. She resided in Homestead, Florida for 12 years where in 1992 she survived the devastation of Hurricane Andrew. After Florida she moved to Sun City West, Arizona where she resided for 11 years before returning to California where she settled in Santee.
Hazel dreamed and always wished for living in warm climates where she could enjoy the sun and the ocean. Her passions were music, dance and beaches of which she enjoyed them in Miami, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and San Diego.
