As the old song goes "Where Do I Begin" to describe Harry Wayne Strange who passed away peacefully Sunday evening, November 15 at Palomar Medical Center with members of his devoted family at his side. He had suffered many serious medical conditions over the past fifteen years, but was always able to bounce back looking good as new. As someone once said, "If there was a 'Senior Survivor' series on television, Harry would be the clear winner!" But his heart just couldn't rebound this time.
Harry was born June 3, 1929 in Marshall County Alabama to Millard and Noma Strange joining three older brothers and two sisters. He became the second to the youngest after the birth of his youngest brother Joe Bill. Except for his oldest brother, Charles Strange of Lakeland, Florida all preceded Harry in death.
Harry is survived by his wife of fifty years, Suzanne Storey, his son Gregory Paul, daughter-in-law Susan of Atlanta, GA, his daughter, Kristin Denise Davis, her husband Mitchell Alan Davis of Bend, Oregon, two wonderful grandchildren, Nicole Kathlyn a student at Arizona State. Ryan Alexander, a high school senior who also resides in Bend, sister-in-law Donnine Moeller, brother-in-law. Kevin Moeller of San Diego, sister-in-law Linda Malone of Laguna Hills, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Harry attended the University of Alabama until his need to serve his beloved country prompted him to join the Air Force and serve in Korea during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Air Force, he continued his education becoming a Quality Assurance Engineer and Manager in the Aerospace and Defense Industry for many years until he and his wife Suzanne created and developed the multi award winning family Board game Touché in 1995.
Many would confirm, Harry was the personification of a "Southern Gentleman", with a never failing calm, cool and collected demeanor. He was an avid golfer and spent every opportunity to play on the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course where he made his first and sadly his last hole in one. He was a big fan of football, particularly the San Diego Chargers (win or lose) and the
University of Alabama Crimson Tide. He loved traveling and enjoyed numerous trips and cruises over the past several years. He was a patient & loving husband, father, grandfather, son and friend to everyone he met and will be sorely missed by all. Like most of the members of his family, he was a lover of the animal kingdom, particularly dogs, and an ardent supporter of all
organizations benefitting America's military heroes.
A "Celebration of His Life" will be held at the Bernardo Heights Community Center in Rancho Bernardo 10:30 am to 1:30 pm on Saturday, December 5. All who knew and loved Harry will be welcomed. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony!
