George Victor Lussier, 75, was called safely home to the Lord on April 7. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at his home in San Diego after a 22+ year long courageous and heroic struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). George was both a loving husband of over 52 years to Beverly and father of two children (Marc, wife Catherine / Michele, husband Robert). He has two grandsons (Nicholas and Ryan) and one step granddaughter (Ashley). He was born in Aldenville, MA on December 24, 1940 and graduated from Chicopee High School where he was an excellent baseball player. He played for the Springfield Giants (farm team of SF Giants) prior to his entry into the military. He entered the military in 1958 and served his country proudly in the USCG for over 11 years as a gas turbine/diesel engine expert. He commissioned and served aboard the USCGC Chase (WHEC-718), among other duties. The Chase ended up being station in San Diego and George was recently able to visit it one last time, which was special. He took an honorable discharge from the military in 1969 due to disability, as an E-6. He then was an engineer specializing mainly in Pratt & Whitney gas turbine land based power plants, eventually becoming an industry leader/expert and highly successful business owner. He was always available to his friends and family and would do whatever was needed to support them. He loved both golf and tennis, playing them regularly. He was diagnosed with ALS in 1994, and it slowly took way his mobility and independence, but never dampened his spirit and positive mental attitude. He fought until the very end. He will be remembered fondly for many things, especially his strength of character, never quit attitude, positive mental outlook, love of life, sense of humor and tremendous generosity. He will be missed greatly. In closing, the family would also like to acknowledge and thank the MDA/ALS/VA for providing invaluable resources/support, along with his longtime personal caregiver Oscar Vall and Elizabeth Hospice for their truly amazing caregiving efforts.
