Derrick Paul Chung, age 68, met Jesus face-to-face on Sunday, January 27, 2019. Born in Jamaica, on January 24, 1951, he was the sixth of Lloyd Chung and Esmay Yapp's eight children. He immigrated to the United States as a young adult, earned his Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and enjoyed a long career as both a civil engineer and Toyota employee. A friend to everyone who knew him, Derrick was known for his warm personality, infectious sense of humor, eternal optimism and love for Jesus. His deepest desire was to see everyone he loved commit their lives to Christ. Derrick enjoyed playing golf and indulging in culinary delights like pineapple upside-down cake and anything from The Dumpling Inn. He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Esmay and sister Josephine. Derrick is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 28 years, and their son Connor, as well as his brothers Bob, Frank, Carlyle, Kiernan, Patrick and sister, Helena. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at 11:00 am, at Foothills Community Church, 365 West Bradley Avenue, El Cajon, CA 92020, with Carlos Merlo officiating. A reception will follow. The Chung family would like to thank U.C.S.D.'s Moores Cancer Center and Dr. Shumei Kato for their outstanding care.
