Darryl entered this life on January 16th, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri. He died on July 10th, 2017 at the age of 78 years in San Diego, California. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jo Dennison . He will be deeply missed by his daughters Lorrie Dennison-Simus and Lainie Dennison,his grandchildren Ryan, Scott, and Dylan, brother in-law Marty Stricklin, extended family and friends. Darryl had resided in life for 68 years in San Diego, California. He grew up in St Louis, Missouri. He moved to San Diego at the age of 10. He graduated from Kearny High School and married his high school sweetheart in 1962 . Soon after that, He enlisted with the US Army for five years. While in the Army he was stationed in Bangkok Thailand. After the Army, he began working for Solar Turbines as a weldor. He specialized MIG/TIG and also fine precision welding. He would often make funny metal sculptures for his family and weld on his hot rods. He worked at Solar Turbines for 35 years. After his retirement from Solar Turbines he worked at Sea World part time for three years with his daughter, Lainie, and wife. He worked in the Hospitality Center serving beer, Guest arrival, and Shows. Darryl's love for hot rods and speed started at a very young age. He owned and loved rebuilding the engines, and racing his 1956 Chevy Nomad, 1957 Chevy, 1965 Corvette Stingray, 1972 t top Corvette, 1937 Chevy Coupe and a 1967 Chevy Camaro. He enjoyed detailing and taking his 1967 Camaro to local car shows such as Pal Joey's, McGregors, Camaro Club at Embarcadero Point, The Streak at Campland on the Bay, and weekly cruise nights in El Cajon, La Mesa, and back in the day- Oscar's to name a few. For years he enjoyed taking his family to the NHRA Drags in Pomona and also to the Barona Drags. His other hobbies include: OTL, Bass fishing on his Ranger Bass Boat, Thunderboat Races at Fiesta Island, hanging out at the beach boardwalk, shooting pool with friends, making homemade tacos, listening to live music at the Downtown Cafe with his wife, grocery shopping, spending time in his mancave/garage drinking Buds, reading Hot Rod Magazines, listening to KGB 101.5 Classic Rock and tinkering on his cars. Darryl enjoyed laughing, and telling jokes with his family and friends. We will be having a Celebration of Life – August 19, 2017 at 5:00pm.
