Dan Anthon Christiansen, 94, died peacefully in his sleep April 11, 2016 in Oceanside, CA. Born Feb.13, 1922 in Beaver, Utah to Hans Anthon and Maud Orrock Christiansen, he was the 4th of 6 siblings. Raised on a sheep ranch in North Creek, he not only worked the ranch but was also an excellent student graduating valedictorian of his high school class. He attended Utah State University for one year and then took a break to work in the airplane industry in San Diego. Later that December as the war broke out he was locked into his position by the war department as an inspector for the next two years after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After the war he was living in El Centro, CA where he met and courted Nadene Geiger, and they were married in the St. George LDS Temple. They lived and raised their family in San Diego and Escondido. Dan worked in the building trades as a journeyman carpenter, building superintendent and general contractor throughout San Diego County, retiring twice only to start working again. He was always admired as a great designer and craftsman. From the time of his youth, Dan loved aviation and wanted to be a pilot. He was taking flying lessons in 1941 when the war broke out and all private aircraft was grounded on the west coast. Three decades late he was able to resume his pilot training and enjoyed flying for the next two decades. Dan had a love of music, playing the saxophone through high school and enjoying the organ in later life. He sang bass in an award winning barbershop quartet for over three decades. He also enjoyed acting in several church community theatrical productions over the years. He and Nadene also loved to dance and took every opportunity to glide across the floor. As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in many leadership positions including twice as branch president, Scoutmaster, and High Priest Group leader. He and Nadene also served a leadership mission in Jamaica and as temple workers at the San Diego Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents, and Sisters: Maurine C. Gale of Beaver, UT, Ione C. Blair of Corvallis, MT, and Louise C. Clyde of Springville, UT. He is survived by his brothers, John O. Christiansen of Beaver, UT, Robert O. Christiansen of Beaver, UT, his Wife, Nadene, his children Eileen C. Rivera of Taylorsville, UT, Eric P. Christiansen of Kamas, UT, Harold L. Christiansen of Taylors Mill, KY, Reid A. Christiansen of Stansbury Park, UT, Suzanne C. DeGraw of Carlsbad, CA, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Known for his honesty and integrity, he will be missed for his infectious smile and laugh, and his sense of humor. His funeral will be held Saturday, April 16 in Beaver, UT at the 3rd Ward building on 220 N Main Street. The viewing will be at noon with the funeral at 1:00pm. He will be interred in the Mountain View Cemetery, in Beaver.
