Always Remembered ~ Forever Loved
Cavin William Craig, 63, passed away on January 1, 2018, surrounded by family, at his home in San Diego, CA, after a short battle with lymphoma.
Born April 23, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan, the middle child of Matthew and Marion Craig, Cavin grew up on the shores of Lake St. Clair. At an early age, he began his love affair with hockey which led him to becoming captain of the Lake Shore High School team, in Saint Clair Shores, MI, (1972 graduate), also playing for the St. Clair Shores Saints and the Detroit Red Wings semi-pro team in 1973/74. He continued to play his beloved sport until almost 50 and carried his passion for the game as a life-long and very devoted Detroit Red Wings fan.
Eventually landing in San Diego, Cavin's college background in architecture lead him into residential construction where he became a General Contractor. His motto, 'Quality through Communication', turned the many clients and subcontractors of C.W. Craig Construction into dear and longtime friends over his 30 years in the business. Cavin was also known for bringing an eclectic mix of work and hockey friends, neighbors and extended family together for BBQ's and birthday parties; his annual Sports Day event topping the list. He could be found holding court in his 'Man Cave', where he always greeted passersby and every neighborhood dog knew they would get a treat, living up to his nickname, 'Big Dogger'.
Cavin is survived by his wife, Mary, children Heather and Kate, grandson Andrew, brother Sean, sister Susan, his mother Marion and a large circle of extended family and friends.
