Bonnie Mae McGhee Perry passed from this life on February 16, 2018, at her home in El Cajon, California. She was ninety-one. Bonnie was born to Samuel McGhee and Ada Leona Hale on March 27, 1926, at their home in Henley, Missouri. She was the youngest of their four children. Her family moved to Raytown, Missouri, where she spent most of her childhood. She graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and also attended business school there. She continued to live in Kansas City until her marriage to John Henry Perry on August 25, 1956. Shortly after their marriage, Bonnie moved to San Diego, California, where John had been living since his discharge from the Navy. She worked as an executive secretary for the Port of San Diego until the birth of their daughter, Connie, in 1961. She was then a homemaker for the rest of her life, raising Connie and later helping to care for two of her granddaughters and one great-granddaughter. Family was important to her. She always tried to visit her brother in Kansas City and sister in Center Point, Texas, every year. She was very close to her nieces and nephews and loved visiting and getting to know their families. She really enjoyed re-connecting with old friends when she visited Kansas City. She loved animals, especially dogs, and always treated her dogs like members of the family. She loved flowers and grew the most beautiful roses. Working in her yard gave her so much pleasure. She also kept a beautiful home. Bonnie attended Scott Memorial Baptist Church in San Diego from the time of her marriage, followed by attendance at Shadow Mountain Community Church from the time of its opening in the East County. She continued to attend there until her health made that too difficult in the last year of her life. She was a resident of San Diego County for over 61 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Perry, her brothers Gerald McGhee and Harold McGhee, and her sister, Betty McGhee Stephens. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Bobof, four grandchildren, Meghann Moss Christian, Mollie Moss, Jillian Bobof, and John Dylan Bobof, and two great-grandchildren, Maylee Elwood and Sadie Christian. Bonnie will be laid to rest with her husband John at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego. Her memorial service is to be held at Fort Rosecrans on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at 10:30 am.
