Bonita L. Doerge, 80, passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. She was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, the second twin daughter of John and Ruth Hollick. She attended Arnold High School and was a majorette. She graduated from Presbyterian University Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh and worked as a Registered Nurse in several areas, including pediatrics.
Bonita married Herman "Pete" Doerge in 1961 and had three children. While she was a dedicated mother and wife, she was active in forward-thinking women's causes and groups, including the La Leche League, the local Oakmont Women's Club, and National Organization of Women. She was an avid reader and researcher in the field of nutrition and alternative medicine, and enjoyed yoga and healthful and delicious cooking.
Bonita and Pete spent their retired years traveling and lived for extended times in St. Petersburg, Florida and Sedona, Arizona before finally settling in San Diego.
Bonita loved her husband and children dearly. She was selfless and kind to her family, and appreciative and gracious for all she was given. She was the emotional and spiritual center and source of strength and wisdom for her family.
Bonita is survived by her husband of 58 years Pete and two of her children, Bill and Diana who all live in San Diego. Her youngest daughter Julie passing preceded hers by one day, and they are forever together in rest and peace.
