Rancho Bernardo- Blaine Bobo Nicholson, a WWII veteran, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather, born October 1st, 1924, passed away in his home on September 17th, 2017, living a full and happy 92 years. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, his father Frank worked as a machinist for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and his mother Consuelo "Mother Nick" was a teacher, the school librarian and the all-girls basketball coach. Blaine was encouraged to take piano and drama, as he was told he was too small to play basketball at No. Little Rock High School. He participated in the school plays, was a class officer, and loved to sing in bands. After graduating high school, he was drafted in the war in 1943, where his artistic abilities were put to use. Blaine was stationed in Brazil where he built situation rooms equipped with largescale maps on which fighting fronts were depicted. He also often sang in a band to help provide much needed entertainment to new recruits, fellow troops, and their families. When Brazilian expeditionary forces sailed for Italy, Blaine went with them into combat as a liaison scout. After the war, he attended University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he graduated with Honors, then The American Academy of Art in Chicago for a short time. He later went to USC for public relations, motion picture marketing, and television. At UCLA he studied writing, and at the Art Center School of Design in Pasadena he studied his other passion of Ad design. He worked in advertising for department stores in Arkansas, which was the stepping stone for when he moved the family to California and worked for Macys in their advertising department. Blaine then landed a job of a lifetime and was head of public relations and advertising for the Primmadonna casino in Gardena, where he also produced shows and acted as the spokesperson for the casino, and later in Reno where the sister casino opened. He had his own newsletter called Your Town of Gardena, which provided much needed support to the community with public functions such as building parks, community pools, and even sending the children of Gardena to Disneyland for their Birthdays. Blaine was the "Man with the Ideas", having a successful advertising agency, producing entertainment shows for the casinos, and designing ads for the Reagan campaign. His home studio was a mix of beautiful acrylic paintings he painted and advertising posters he drew and developed. If there was a smart slogan, chances are he was the one who came up with it. Blaine was married to Betty Lyon from 1946 to 1967, and had three children, Steve, Nancy, and Joy. He later married Maryanne Nicholson for a long and happy 49 years, and was a father to Rob Mackie. Blaine was always coming up with ideas for plays, musicals, and books that he wanted to write. But he also was a father, a husband, and loved to travel. They say "If you live an interesting life, you probably don't have much time to write", and an interesting life he had. He will be remembered for being a motivated man of many accomplishments who knew how to tell the best stories. Now he is up in heaven with his many friends and family he loved so dearly, having his 5:00 bourbon, and singing a tune. "Tea for two, and two for tea", Grandad. We love you so very much and thank you for the many wonderful years you gave to all of us. A memorial service will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery at a future date, where his ashes will be placed with the other members of our family that also served our country.
