Bernardo G. Garcia was born in National City, California. He graduated from Sweetwater High School class of 1979 and completed two years of higher education at Southwestern College in Bonita California. He completed his construction union apprenticeship and advanced to Journeyman status receiving various trade certificates from the U.S. Department of Labor and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
He navigated life as the eldest son of his father, Bernardo Garcia Soto, after the death of his father as a young adolescent. He soon became an all-star athlete competing in many sports including football, wrestling, boxing, cross country, and even competed in a cycling marathon from Tijuana to Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. He survived an automobile accident yet was treated for a broken femur that affected his ability to compete in sports as previously.
As a child, Bernardo G. Garcia learned to play guitar from a dear neighbor who was a multi-string instrumentalist, and as a teenager learned to play piano, appreciating many music genres. He was extremely intelligent with many hobbies and interests including: auto mechanic, landscaping, languages such as French, crafts with rocks, key making, sales, sewing, cinephile, chess, and an avid reader.
Bernardo was a devoted Christian who taught his children about God. He was an excellent storyteller and loved to laugh.
Bernardo G. Garcia is survived by his children: Bernardo Diaz Garcia, Esteban Rodney Diaz Garcia, Alonso Garcia, Natalia Diaz Garcia. He is survived by his siblings: Virginia Lerma Garcia, Israel G. Garcia, Yolanda Garcia, and Isabel Kasparie. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Isabella Quetzali Garcia, Giovanni Esteban Zarate Garcia, Rogelio Alonso Garcia, Elena Xochitl Sara Durant Garcia.
