Barbara A. Killian, 72, of Rancho Bernardo, passed away January 3, 2017 in her home in San Diego, CA, surrounded by her family. A family service and burial will be held at El Camino Memorial Park at the Mausoleum of the Bells, Garden of Memories, on January 10, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Legacy Funeral and Cremation Care is handling the funeral arrangements. Barb was born in Baltimore to Joseph and Eva Crownover on February 7, 1944. They moved to San Diego when she was young allowing her to make many lifelong friends that she graduated with from Point Loma High School. She continued on to San Diego State for a few years before beginning her own family. She began her career in the insurance industry where she forged many lifelong friendships. Barb transitioned to co-owner of Killian Wholesale where she worked side by side with her husband for 30 years. Barb spent over a decade volunteering and serving on the Board of Directors for the Susan G. Komen, San Diego and Inland Empire affiliates as a Volunteer and Grant Chair. A 17-year inflammatory breast cancer survivor who's mission was to share her story, increase awareness and be an advocate for others stricken from this disease. Nothing was more important to Barb than her family and her friends. She focused her life towards the happiness of others and was always willing to help in whatever way she could. She loved food, traveling with her husband Herb and their dog Archie; taking long walks; bike rides with her childhood friend Arlene, and enjoyed her time with her bowling buddies. However, and most importantly, it was her time she spent with Herb and her family that meant so much. Barb was a devoted wife, travel companion and best friend to Herb; blessed to have 40 wonderful years shared together. Barb is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Eva Crownover. Immediate survivors include the love of her life Herbert Killian; two amazing sons, Brian (and Sheila) McMahon, and Todd (and Tracy) McMahon; two beautiful daughters, Debbie (and Matt) Gilligan, and Patty (and Dexter) Satterwhite. Barb adored her four incredible grandchildren, Brianna Gilligan, Darren Reid, Katelyn Gilligan and Lauren McMahon. Her dog Archie always brought joy to Mom and provided great comfort. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation for our family member Jen McMahon as she continues to aggressively fight her battle against melanoma https://www.gofundme.com/nursejen . A celebration of life will be held shortly, please check back as we finalize the details and make this a special day for Barb and her loved ones.
