Amy Toyoko Brunst was born on March 7, 1944 in Honolulu, Hawaii and passed away on September 28, 2016 in La Mesa, California after a long battle with liver disease. She is survived and remembered here by her husband Kenneth and her son Brian. She is also survived by her father Teruo, her mother Phyllis, and her brother Richard.
Many people measure their life by accomplishments such as their education or career. While Amy succeeded in those things, her endless happiness and contentment came from helping and giving to others.
As a daughter and sister, she tirelessly took care of her parents and brother until her illness prevented her from doing so. As a wife, she supported Ken for over 45 years of marriage, being a strong partner, a patient teacher, an impeccable homemaker, a constant companion, and the one and only love of his life. As a mother, she celebrated Brian's successes, consoled him in failure, never missed an important moment in his life, always offered perfect words and advice, and instilled in him her most important values – honesty, compassion, and positivity. And as a human being, she made the world a better place by giving selflessly to others and always having a kind word to say.
Though her fight against liver disease drained her energy and affected her quality of life, Amy never complained or succumbed to anger and depression. Her unwavering optimism allowed her to enjoy the simple things in life – a weekend spent with Ken and Brian, a car ride to her favorite places, a home cooked meal shared with family and friends. Amy saw and cherished the very best from every moment in her life. We mourn for her and lament a life too short. She would ask us to see how lucky we were to have her in our lives for as long as we did.
If you were fortunate enough to have Amy touch your life in some way, take a moment to think of her and then put forth some kindness into the world. She would have liked that.
We miss you.
